'Not a Love Story' Movie Review

Director: Ram Gopal Verma
Cast: Mahie Gill,Zakir Hussain, Deepak Dobriyal, Ajay Gehi
Human beings are social beings and happily they survive when they dwell in societies sharing and caring for people around them. But when they live like beasts or even worse, then they shouldn't be given any sympathy. I don't know why Ram Gopal Verma tried to glorify a heinous barbarous act and attempted to spice it up with weird close-up shots, low angles, tight frames and a disturbing storyline served with tons of fake blood and ketchup curry. Based on the gruesome Neeraj Grover murder case, it showcases the escapades of Kannada actress Maria Susairaj and her boyfriend Lieutenant M.L. Jerome Mathew.

This film provides a plethora of reasons to not to like it, as the plot ignores the real story and tries hard to make the murderers appear correct, leaving you with a bad feeling.  Deepak Dhabral has been wrongly casted as you wonder why a good looking girl capable of bagging a lead role in a film, be madly in love with Dhabral’s character ‘Robin’. Mahi Gill’s atrocious dance number ‘Hoja Rangeela rey’ looks shady and is also a failed attempt of bringing oomph factor on the screen. The Song ‘Hoja Rangeela rey’ is played numerous times throughout the movie, getting onto everybody’s nerves. The story is about an aspiring actress Anusha Chawla, who has an obsessive boyfriend living in another town. Initial 1/3rd of the movie visualizes the struggles of an aspiring actress, casting couch and how the protagonist eventually bags a film in spite of the difficulties faced by her. While she is working on making her dream come true, her possessive boyfriend Robin Fernandes keeps calling her, with an omnipresent frustrated look on his face. He definitely meets all expectations of appearing like a psycho killer.  Ashish Bhatnagar played by Ajay Gehi, gives Anusha her first film but he too ends up sleeping with her. The story takes a turn when Robin gives Anusha a surprise visit at 7:30 in the morning. All hells break loose when he sees Ashish Bhatnagar naked in her girlfriend’s apartment and he kills him cold-bloodedly by stabbing him several times.

There are many movies based on murders and crime but ‘Not a love story’ justifies a heinous murder committed in a fit of rage and anger. New age film makers should take ownership of the kind of movies they make as many people watch them and subconsciously absorb the unwanted parts of it. ‘Not a love story’ no where attempts to promote justice and it completely ignores the pain that the Ashish's family has to go through. It doesn’t portray the evil act as an ‘evil act’. But if you would like to watch a confused murder mystery with an incomplete ending, glorifying a heinous crime committed by two psycho lovers, then you surely should watch it.
